Construction Management and Economics

Department members have extensive experience and knowledge in a range of research topics in construction engineering, management and economics, but the department specializes specifically in the central problems of the construction industry, both in Israel and around the world: continuous improvement of efficiency in construction through research of the processes of management and production design and control; construction workers lifesaving through construction safety research; advanced technologies in building information systems and construction equipment; building quality and costs of quality deficiency in construction; preparing for and coping with the aftereffects of earthquakes.

The Department has an agreement for collaboration in research with the BIM Research Center of HUST, the Huazhong University of Science and Technology in the city of Wuhan, Hebei Province, China. The advanced research carried out at the Department is also due to research collaborations with other researchers from the Technion at large, other departments of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, as well as with leading scientists from abroad. Ground-based laser scans, for example, are used in crane safety research in addition to research carried out at the virtual lab on the topic of damage assessment and search and rescue operations after an earthquake.

The following are examples of recently relevant research fields:

  • Project management
  • Construction safety
  • Construction economics
  • Building information modeling (BIM)
  • Lean construction
  • Construction quality and costs of quality deficiency
  • Construction equipment
